Projects

The Venezuelan American Archives Foundation is currently developing a series of projects to advance our initiative to promote democratic values and identify the threats to freedom of speech and human rights in the region. Also we are promoting awareness of the severe migration crisis affecting Venezuelans and citizens of other Latin American countries, the threats to freedom of speech and human rights, and the varied aspects of the Venezuelan experience in the United States.

Investigative and Documentary Project (1)

“Walkers” (Migrants From Hell)

This investigative and documentary project aims to document the experience of tens of thousands of migrants from South America, especially Venezuela, in search of a better future and fleeing the socialist and populist policies of those countries. The project will document the story of two dozen families from South and Central America in their journey on foot to reach U.S. territory, following their experience to survive and settle in various U.S. cities. This project is made in partnership with the non-profit Hermanos de la Calle, of Miami, which has provided invaluable assistance to many Latin American and European migrants who have come across the border to the United States.

Project 2

Voices in Exile

Since 1999, Venezuelan investigative journalists and political scientists went into exile in the United States because of their investigative work protecting freedom of speech and denouncing corruption and human rights abuses. They understand what it is lo lose your freedoms. This program started then and continues today as a window for the voice of exiles and immigrants that are fighting to stop human rights and freedom of speech violations everywhere, particularly in Latin America and Latino communities in the U.S. (See more here).

Project 3

The Venezuelan-American Experience

For almost two and a half centuries, the ties between Venezuela and the United States have produced a series of events where achievements and conflicts in both countries are mixed. Throughout this history, a wide variety of personalities have stood out, from adventurers and independence heroes to scientists, artists and politicians who left and still leave an indelible mark on the relationship between the two countries. This project aims to register the lives of a serie of Venezuelan and Americans that have made history.
